Do you know that one of the most brilliantly colored of all pigeons  is the Archangel/Gimpels . It belongs to the German Color Pigeon Group some also referes to as the German Toy Group.

It can be authenticated there for such a long time thats why is now generally regarded as an old breed from Southern Germany. This pigeons are known as Archangel in the United States.

 In all of Europe except Britain This pigeons are known as Gimpel. The name Archangel is used to describe only the dark copper in  Britain,.

The British  Archangel Club, only allow "The peak crested copper black wing" to be known as the Archangel.

All other colors are known as Gimpels.Several main colors in the present day Gimpels are found nowdays.

Some with white flights with Red/Blue Red/Black wing, wing, Red/ Black wing with six to ten white flights, Some rarer colors can also be found.

Before 1930, there was a rare color named as the Monk Marked Archangel.The Pigeons is medium in size measuring 33 cm to 34 cm long and is of Slender shap having narrow head, long arched, plain or crested peak. when not in fligh the wings are moderately long and rest on the tail. The eyes are deep light orrange,having enclosed by a cere of coral tint which enhancing the brilliant metallic sheen of the neck and head.The actual or exact history of the breed of these pigeon cannot be confirmed. it was known in Germany in 1820, and imported into Britain via Ghent by Sir John Sebright in 1839.Three theories are available regarding  the breed known as Archangel in Britain.
