Australian Performing Tumbler is a nice bred of pigeon. Some countries have developed their own special varieties of Tumblers , which may differ slightly in appearance and aerial acrobatic capabilities.

 Through selective breeding in Australia from originally imported Tumbler Pigeon stocks some breed of pigeon was developed. The APT has been a popular flying variety due to the spinning/rolling action typical of the Tumbler varieties in the previous years.

 Ancient versions of the APT were quite good little while performers in the air. The beautiful Turkish Tumbler is selected for an ability to perform some backward somersaults. Tumblers compete as a flock or group and they are specially judged on their ability to perform in union.

Specialized tumbling feats, such as the backward somersault, can only be performed by a small proportion of Turkish Tumblers.

The challenge for those who breed Turkish and other types of Tumblers lies in the ability to produce specialist tumblers rather than enter their flock into competitions.Now however the breed is maintained mainly for exhibition purposes having first been developed for the show pen in the State of New South Wales. 

The APT ; which is a very popular show in the Australian States of New South Wales and Queensland, here the largest number of breeders of this variety can be found.

 A show standard was adopted by Australian National Pigeon Association in the year 1991 and has been widely upgraded further thanks largely to the efforts of Mr Vaughan Kelly  and Mr Max Van Genet.
